The Samsung Galaxy A53 5G is yet another refresh to Samsung’s mid-range devices, which have been coming out back to back. 120Hz super AMOLED screen, a primary 64MP camera, 25W fast charging, a huge battery at 5000mAh, and the new flagship Exynos 1280 5G chipset. Add 5G and it’s quite a competitively priced midrange. It ticks pretty much every box, and then some. This phone is certainly a midrange powerhouse.
Design
The Samsung Galaxy A53 5G comes with a 6.5-inch 120Hz Super AMOLED screen with a center-aligned punch-hole design for the selfie camera. It’s a beauty, with very even bezels and a very narrow chin, with a screen-to-body ratio of 85.4%. It has an aspect ratio of 20:9 and supports HD10 which makes it an absolute delight to consume media with. It has a plastic frame, a plastic back and a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 front panel. It is very bright and vivid, peaking at 1000 nits. It’s rated IP67 for dust and splash protection, for 1m for 30mins. unfortunately, it loses the headphone jack. It has a fast under-display optical fingerprint sensor. It supports stereo speakers, which offer great sound when playing media.
Performance
The Samsung Galaxy A53 5G brings in the heat with the latest generation Exynos 1280 5G chipset, the fastest in the current range of in-house midrange 5G chips, making it very fast and excellent for gaming. It has an Octa-core CPU with storage options of 6/8 GB for RAM & 256 GB for ROM. It also comes with an expandable memory option, which shares the slot with the sim card. Paired with the 120Hz AMOLED screen, running the latest Android 12 with One UI 4.1 skin on top, the performance feels very fast and premium. Samsung’s UI is rich in customizations, supporting numerous always-on screen animations. No lags or slow transitions on this one. Everything feels fast, fluid, and rich in color.
Cameras
The Samsung Galaxy A53 5G has a quad-camera arrangement on the back. It comes with an excellent 64 MP primary sensor, with 8 MP picture binning for those excellent daylight photos. It has a 12MP ultra-wide with a 123˚ FOV, for great landscape and group photos. There is a 5MP depth lens, giving it great immersion when it comes to those close-up photos, and a 5MP macro lens. The selfie camera is a generous 32MP wide sensor, capable of 4K at 30fps and 1080p video at 30fps. The selfies and videos are great and well-exposed.
Other features
The Samsung Galaxy A53 5G has decent 25W fast charging, which can charge the phone to 100% in a little over an hour. That is in addition to the fact that it also comes with a Li-Po 5000mAh non-removable battery. Even with the 120Hz high refresh rate AMOLED screen, this should be more than a day’s worth. The main concession would be that there is no wireless charging or wired reverse charging. It, fortunately, does support NFC for contactless paying.
